Jesse Jackson: 'Unfinished Business' with Barack Obama

CNN and Rev. Jesse Jackson must figure that his role as a spokesperson for the Michael Jackson family placed him in position to become a spokesperson for the entire Black community again. Personally, I think that Jackson has some gumption (aka 'balls'!) for stepping back into the national spotlight as he's done with this interview:

I don't have a problem with people in the Black community seeking greater access and greater government action to impact the poor and unemployed.

I do have a problem with Rev. Jackson thinking that he is the proper person to make this call. It was only a year ago that Rev. Jackson was calling for the castration of Barack Obama.

As such, I find it difficult to give any credibility to Rev. Jackson when he says that he “wants to engage more fully with [Obama] because there is a lot of unfinished business.”

While Jackson noted that the president has met with members of the Congressional Black Caucus and with some African American mayors, Jackson said he has yet to sit down with Obama.

Note to Rev Jackson -- I wouldn't doubt that you have been blacklisted from the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama. No woman wants her man in the same room with someone that fantasizes about "cutting his balls off".

Villagers ... what say u about the re-emergence of Rev. Jesse Jackson in the public arena?

He makes it sound like Obama needs his approval to move forward.

First of all, the last time I checked it is easy to get in touch with the current POTUS. He has a website and all you have to do is visit. Send him and message. Or you can use the traditional method of writing him a letter.

Our economic development has been a sore spot with me for decades. We needed economic planners decades ago. We needed to be educated about capitalism, in the same manner. If someone in the "leadership" had their head screwed on right-some of what we needed could of been generated by us for us.

Jesse Jackson and company don't need to have keys to the White House. What they need to do is get a clue and get a life! There needs to be a new set of leaders stepping up and taking over. Because this set is tired and making me feel the same way.

I do not understand why the media keeps going back to this well. Jesse's time has passed, long since passed.

Villager,

I think DJ says it best. Although I have problems with some of what Jackson said, at this point in the game I'm hardly surprised because we all know by now that Jackson is married to the spotlight. We also all know that he believes he should be our anointed spokesman and that everything black should be cleared through him. This is not news.

I feel it is important that we not reflexively diss Jackson all the time because that can be easy to do. He makes it easy. But he has also accomplished quite a bit that deserves praise and shouldn't be glossed over to get to the ugly stuff. But having said that, DJ is dead on. The media simply cannot let him go because he is so easy to go to. It's harder for them to work and find more current voices because that requires actual reporting and work. So instead they go with what they know. And Jackson as always is only to happy to oblige.

We can never rely on the major media to tell our story in full. Or decide our spokespersons. Ever.

Jesse was good for my mother's generation. He is not appropriate for mine. I've been sending the memo, he's just not reading it.

A.Spence & Shae - Yeah, I wonder if Jesse Jackson knows how odd he sounds in any discussion about Obama based on his comment last year?

Lady D - You've hit it on the head as usual. Jackson lost his privileges when he said that he wanted to cut the balls off Obama. For now, it is my thought that we need to learn and teach our own about economic development. Even if we are not business owners ... we need to learn how to make conscious decisions about our consumer purchases...

D.J. - The "media" is lazy. Jesse Jackson is so desparate for a camera that he'll be anywhere-anytime if they call him...

Keith - I feel ya'. However, the good things that Jesse Jackson did in the past is being laid to waste by his tone-deaf actions in the present...

jackson is obviously seething with bitterness after president obama's speech at the naacp anniversary... president obama has the voice.. jackson cannot articulate the feelings of this generation in the same way..
i can just see michelle saying 'no honey.. i got this' to her husband when jackson makes the call..lol!

Marci - I think you're right about Michelle. President Obama has a great deal of pressure on him. I hope he is able to be successful. It would help if he didn't have envious folks like Jesse Jackson barking at him...
